One day, however, we read and re-read somewhat confusing directions and all agreed on rounding a mark which proved to be the wrong one. In races there are some techniques that one boat can use on another to make their life a bit more difficult and to derive a bit of advantage, like "luffing up." As I have mentioned in previous posts, the return from Antigua to Charleston was one of those marvelous sails which will be replayed in memory for many, many years.
